She lived with her parents and two siblings, Edvige and Leone, on 6 Passalacqua Street in Turin. Like all Jewish families in Italy, the Lattes had to deal with discrimination and limitation of rights from around 1938 onwards. After September 8, 1943 the situation got even worse and on October 17, 1943 Leone was arrested as a consequence of the racial laws. Leone\u2019s two sisters Itala and Edvige, underestimating the dangerous situation, went to the prison where Leone was being held. They were recognized as Jews, arrested, and Itala and her sister were transferred to San Vittore Prison in Milan. On December 6, 1943 they were deported to Auschwitz on the first of the 20 death trains from Central Station.
